The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze has created much hype leading up to its arrival in dealerships, and with good reason. Brand new for the 2011 model year, the Cruze is entering the compact car segment with a long list of safety features and standard comfort features- and a low price tag. When setting the standard features for the Cruze, Chevy did not spare anything, as the value of the Cruze LS offers more value than the base models of other vehicles in their class. The LS, starting at $16,995, includes everything that drivers want and need, something that is not included in all other compact cars. Standard equipment Chevrolet shoppers in Lexington will love include air conditioning, power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, OnStar with Turn-by-Turn Navigation, XM Radio, with three-month trial subscription, AM/FM Single-CD radio, a 6-speaker stereo system, rear side impact and knee airbags, passenger seat height adjustment and a telescoping steering wheel.

The Cruze is available in LS, LT, LTZ, and fuel-economy-oriented Eco trim levels. The LS has a 136-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine. The LT, LTZ, and Eco use a 138-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission is available on all models.

Among the available features are a wireless cell-phone link and navigation system. Cruze Eco models have ultra-low-rolling-resistance tires and other aerodynamic tweaks designed to increase fuel economy. Available on the LT and LTZ is an RS Appearance Package, which includes specific wheels and exterior trim.

“We set out to redefine the compact segment by offering customers more of the features they want for less money than comparably equipped competitive models,” said Margaret Brooks, Chevrolet Small Car marketing director. “The Cruze offers significantly more value than the competition – and the vehicle it replaces — with standard equipment that is appreciated by today’s consumers.”

The Cruze is also a segment-leader in safety. The list of standard safety features on all models includes dual stage airbags, head-curtain airbags mounted in the roof rail, seat mounted, side-impact airbags, front and rear, front passenger seat occupant sensing system, and rollover sensing and protection system as well as a collapsible pedal assembly, which can minimize injuries to the driver in a head-on collision. Its ten airbags make it a segment-leader.

The Cruze is also highlighted by its fuel efficiency. Initial fuel estimates have the Cruze achieving 35 to 40 highway mpg, making the Cruze a great money saver at the pump. Even more fuel efficient is the Eco model. The EPA just announced that this model achieves 28 mpg in the city and up to 42 mpg on the highway when equipped with a manual transmission, making it more fuel-efficient than many hybrid models.
